Psychosis and schizophrenia care in Delhi and online

Psychosis is when a person loses some contact with reality. They may hear or see things others do not, or hold fixed beliefs that people around them do not share. Schizophrenia is one of the conditions in which psychosis occurs.

Dr. Aditya VohraMBBS, MD (Psychiatry), Psychiatrist in New Delhi

It rarely begins suddenly. Families often notice a gradual change first, and getting help early can make a real difference to recovery.

Common signs

  • Withdrawing from friends, family, work or studies
  • Suspicion or fear that others mean harm
  • Hearing voices or seeing things others do not
  • Unusual beliefs that do not make sense to others
  • Speech or behaviour that seems confused
  • Sleeping poorly and neglecting self-care

When to see a psychiatrist

Seek help as early as possible if you notice these changes in yourself or in someone close to you. If someone may harm themselves or others, call 112.

In danger right now? Call 112, or Tele-MANAS on 14416. Outside India, call your local emergency number.

How he can help

Care involves a careful assessment, medicine that treats the symptoms, support and education for the family, and regular follow-up. Many people with psychosis recover well and return to work and study.

  3. 3

    First consultation

An unhurried conversation about what is happening, how long it has been going on and what you want to change. Bring any earlier prescriptions or reports.

  4. 4
