Sexual problems care in Delhi and online

Sexual problems are common in men and women, and often hard to talk about. They include low desire, difficulty with arousal or erection, ejaculating too early or with difficulty, pain, and anxiety about performance.

Dr. Aditya VohraMBBS, MD (Psychiatry), Psychiatrist in New Delhi

Many have a psychological side, such as stress, anxiety, depression or strain in a relationship, and some are linked to medicines or physical health. They can be treated, and the conversation stays private.

Common signs

  • Little or no interest in sex for a long time
  • Difficulty getting or keeping an erection
  • Ejaculating too early, or finding it hard to ejaculate
  • Pain or discomfort during sex
  • Anxiety about sex, or avoiding it
  • A change in sexual function after starting a medicine

When to see a psychiatrist

See a psychiatrist if a sexual problem has lasted several months, is causing you distress or strain in your relationship, or began after starting a new medicine. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

In danger right now? Call 112, or Tele-MANAS on 14416. Outside India, call your local emergency number.

How he can help

He listens without judgement, asks about your health, medicines, mood and relationship, and checks whether a physical cause needs looking at with another specialist. A plan can include therapy for anxiety and performance worries, sessions with your partner if you wish, a review of medicines that may be affecting sex, and treatment where it will help.

Questions

Is it confidential?

Yes. What you share is kept confidential. You can come alone or with your partner, in person or online.

Can medicines for depression affect sexual function?

Some can. If you notice a change after starting a medicine, talk to your doctor before stopping it. There are often other options or doses that help.
